Crossplay is confirmed by the storefront itself
The strongest evidence is first-party: the Xbox Store listing includes Cross-platform multiplayer and Cross-platform co-op in its capabilities list. That is Microsoft publishing the capability, not a press report.
Cross-platform support tracker CrossWatch reaches the same conclusion, listing crossplay as supported at launch across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and citing an official developer response as its verification source.
Practically, that means the 1v4 format works across hardware: one Michael and four civilians can each be on a different platform.
Why the simultaneous launch matters
All four storefronts unlocked at the same moment on September 8, 2026 — Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and Epic Games, at 9:00 AM PT per the official announcement.
A shared unlock is the precondition for a shared matchmaking pool. Nobody was locked out of playing with friends because their storefront went live later.
The Xbox listing puts online play at 2–5 players, matching the match format precisely and reinforcing that the pool is one population rather than per-platform silos.
What crossplay means for queue times
This is the practical payoff. Third-party trackers can only see Steam, where concurrents sat around 19,000 with an all-time peak of 33,639 on launch day.
Because matchmaking is cross-platform, that Steam figure is not the size of your queue. The official all-platform number is over 500,000 players at launch, which is the population actually feeding matchmaking.
So if you are on PS5 or Xbox and worried about finding lobbies, the shared pool is working in your favour rather than splitting the player base three ways.
Cross-progression has not been announced
Crossplay and cross-progression are different features and only one of them is confirmed. No cross-save or cross-progression capability tag appears on the Xbox Store listing, and CrossWatch does not mention the feature either.
That matters because the game has four separate progression tracks — Profile, Killer, Civilian and Weapon Level — plus perk decks and hundreds of cosmetics. All of that is tied to the account on the platform where you earned it.
If you are deciding which platform to buy on, decide as though your progress will stay there permanently.

Where any change would be announced
The official X account @HalloweenTVG is where the crossplay confirmation originated and is the likeliest first source for any cross-progression news.
The official Discord server, with more than 20,000 members, is the developer-designated community hub and carries patch notes and known issues.
Official site posts remain the authoritative record — that is where the launch and progression details were published in full.
Playing with friends across platforms
Because all four storefronts share one pool, a party can mix PS5, Xbox, Steam and Epic players in the same 1v4 lobby of five without any special setup.
Each platform still applies its own online service requirements and its own friend system, so adding someone cross-platform works through the game rather than through your console friends list.
Match size is listed as 2–5 players on the Xbox Store, which matches one Michael plus four civilians exactly — there is no larger mode where platform limits might differ.
What crossplay does not cover
Purchases do not travel. Buying the Digital Deluxe on PS5 does not grant Richard and Alexis on PC — each storefront sells its own licence.
Progression does not travel either, as far as anything announced. Profile, Killer, Civilian and Weapon Levels, plus perk decks and cosmetics, live on the account where you earned them.
Physical editions add another wrinkle: the disc versions released October 6, 2026 are PS5 and Xbox Series X only, and their Advance Access cosmetics apply to that platform account.
If cross-platform matchmaking is not working
During the launch window the most common failure was not crossplay itself but the login layer: players reported Backend Authentication hangs, long queues, Login Failed errors and Lost Connection to Host disconnects.
Those are server-side conditions, so local network fixes often did nothing. Checking the official Discord for status was more useful than reinstalling.
IllFonic shipped a 1.0.1 hotfix shortly after Advance Access opened, and patch notes continue to be published through the official site and Discord.
Why crossplay matters more in this genre
Asymmetrical horror games need a very specific mix of players. Every lobby requires one killer and four civilians, so both roles have to be supplied continuously or queues stall for everyone.
Splitting that population across four storefronts without crossplay would have been risky, especially outside peak hours in smaller regions.
A shared pool also stabilises match quality over time, since the matchmaker has a larger sample to draw from when balancing lobbies.
Platform differences that survive crossplay
Crossplay unifies matchmaking, not features. The Xbox Store advertises 4K Ultra HD, HDR10, 60+ fps and Dolby Atmos, while the PlayStation listing highlights DualSense vibration and trigger effects plus PS5 and PlayStation Portal cloud streaming with PS Plus Premium.
Storefront availability differs too: PC players choose between Steam and the Epic Games Store, while physical discs exist only for PS5 and Xbox Series X from October 6, 2026.
Regional availability is the sharpest difference of all — the game is banned in Australia, and the PS5 release was cancelled in Japan.
Plan your platform as permanent
The game runs four progression tracks in parallel — Profile, Killer, Civilian and Weapon Level — each with Prestige after max, on top of perk decks and hundreds of cosmetics.
None of that has an announced route between platforms, so the account you invest in is where that investment stays.
If you expect to move platforms later, that is an argument for choosing based on where your friends already play rather than on hardware features.
Not confirmed yet
- Cross-progression or cross-save between platforms has not been announced.
- Whether crossplay can be disabled in settings, and where that option lives, is not documented officially.
