PlayStation 5 is a launch platform, releasing the same day as Windows and Xbox Series X|S on September 8, 2026. Console players followed exactly the same schedule as PC: Advance Access on September 4 for Digital Deluxe owners, then the full release four days later.

The official site lists PlayStation alongside Steam, Xbox and Epic in its purchase row, and the PlayStation Store carries both the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions.

One important exception: the PS5 release was cancelled in Japan. Japanese players cannot buy the PlayStation version, though other platforms remain available.

PS5-specific features

The store listing confirms DualSense support for both vibration and trigger effects, which is the feature most often asked about for a game built around slow, deliberate stalking and sudden melee struggles.

The game supports PS5 and PlayStation Portal cloud streaming, though that requires a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.

Online play is listed at up to five players, which matches the 1v4 match format exactly — one Michael and four civilians.

Editions and pricing on PS5

Standard Edition is $39.99 and Digital Deluxe is $59.99, matching pricing on other platforms. The Deluxe contents are identical too: the Inmate Michael Myers skin, the Alexis and Richard civilians, a Laurie Strode cosmetic and a digital comic.

This is worth stating plainly because it is a common assumption: there is no PlayStation-exclusive character, map or mode. Nothing in the Deluxe package is platform-specific.

A physical PS5 disc release follows on October 6, 2026, with a Standard at $39.99 including an 11x17 poster and a limited Collector's Edition at $149.99.

What is known about performance

The Xbox Store listing advertises 4K Ultra HD, HDR10, 60+ fps and Dolby Atmos for Xbox Series X|S. The PlayStation Store page carries no equivalent frame-rate or resolution labels, so those numbers should not be assumed to apply to the PS5 build.

Broader review coverage does note technical issues across platforms — jank, crashes and frame-rate problems that vary by hardware — and a 1.0.1 hotfix landed shortly after Advance Access opened.

For anything more precise than that, wait for a dedicated technical analysis rather than trusting an estimate.

Playing with friends on other platforms

Crossplay is supported at launch, so PS5 players share a matchmaking pool with Xbox and PC players. The Xbox Store capabilities list confirms cross-platform multiplayer and co-op directly.

That has a practical benefit for PS5 owners: queue times depend on the whole cross-platform population, not just PlayStation players.

Cross-progression is a different question, and it has not been announced. Do not assume levels or cosmetics transfer if you switch platforms.

Choosing an edition on PlayStation

The Standard Edition at $39.99 contains everything that matters: the six-chapter single-player campaign, all four multiplayer maps and the ten base civilians, plus the full progression and perk systems.

The $59.99 Digital Deluxe adds Richard and Alexis as playable civilians, the Inmate and Phantom Michael Myers skins, a Laurie Strode cosmetic and a digital comic. It also carried the four-day Advance Access window, which no longer has value now that the game is out.

What PS5 players should expect at launch

Reviews across platforms flagged technical rough edges: characters catching on doors or scenery, executions breaking near walls, AI residents failing to reach where they were sent, plus crashes and frame-rate issues that vary by hardware.

Server-side problems were the loudest complaint during the launch window, including Backend Authentication failures, long login queues and Lost Connection to Host disconnects.

IllFonic responded quickly with a 1.0.1 hotfix addressing several specific issues, and patch notes are published through the official site and the official Discord server.

Getting started on PS5

Play the single-player campaign first. It is built as the teaching layer for the multiplayer mechanics, and running it as Michael teaches Killer Sense, Stalk and Darkness Control without four opponents punishing mistakes.

When you move to multiplayer, expect a 1v4 lobby of five players drawn from a cross-platform pool, so queue times are not limited to the PlayStation population.

Because cross-progression is not announced, treat your PS5 account as where your progress permanently lives before investing dozens of hours into Killer, Civilian and Weapon Levels.

PS5 compared with the other versions

Content is identical across platforms — the same campaign, the same four maps, the same ten base civilians — so the comparison comes down to platform features and storefront choice.

Xbox Series X|S carries the more detailed advertised spec sheet, listing 4K Ultra HD, HDR10, 60+ fps and Dolby Atmos. PS5's listed advantages are DualSense haptics and trigger effects plus PlayStation Portal streaming.

PC is the only platform with a storefront choice, since Steam and the Epic Games Store both carry the game, and the only one without a physical disc release.

The cancelled Japanese PS5 release

The PS5 release was cancelled in Japan, which means Japanese players cannot buy the PlayStation version at all — this is not a delay with a later date attached.

Other platforms are unaffected by that specific cancellation, and separately the game is banned outright in Australia across all platforms.

Anyone buying as a gift across regions should check availability before purchase rather than assuming a global release applies everywhere.
