The basics in one place
Halloween: The Game was developed by IllFonic and published by IllFonic with Gun Interactive, built in Unreal Engine 5 and based on John Carpenter's 1978 film. It released on September 8, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X|S.
The game is a stealth and survival horror title with two halves: a 1v4 asymmetrical multiplayer mode and a standalone single-player campaign. It was made in collaboration with Carpenter himself and producer Malek Akkad.
Standard Edition costs $39.99 and Digital Deluxe costs $59.99. The game is banned in Australia, and the PS5 release was cancelled in Japan.
The full character roster
The game launched with one killer and ten playable Heroes of Haddonfield, with two additional civilians locked to the Digital Deluxe Edition. The roster mixes four reimagined legacy characters from the 1978 film with six new Haddonfield residents created by IllFonic.
Standard Edition civilians are Jennifer, Tanya, Rachel, Eric, Marcus, Thomas, Bob, Lynda, Annie and Laurie. The Deluxe Edition adds Richard and Alexis.
All twelve civilians share the same four stats — Athleticism, Personality, Resourcefulness and Capability — but each has different values and a signature trait, so character choice is a real loadout decision rather than a skin swap.
Maps
The official launch post lists four multiplayer maps: Haddonfield Town Center, Haddonfield Heights, Orange Grove Estates and East Haddonfield. They were revealed across 2025 and 2026, with Haddonfield Heights shown first in December 2025, Town Center in June 2026 and Orange Grove Estates in July 2026.
One thing worth flagging: Wikipedia still lists only three maps and omits East Haddonfield. Where the two disagree, the official launch announcement is the authority.
Every map is a residential neighbourhood rather than an arena, which is why looting routes, phone locations and escape points are the knowledge that actually wins matches.

Michael Myers: abilities and customization
Michael is the only killer in the game. His core toolkit covers Killer Sense for first-person detection, Stalk for building toward stronger executions, Shape Jump for unseen movement through shadows, Shape Dash for closing distance, Darkness Control for cutting power and triggering blackouts, and melee for armed civilians.
On the customization side he can change killer skins, tints and starting weapons, and select three abilities from a pool that includes Reality Tear, Blackout and Detection Pulse.
Critically, he cannot sprint. The pressure he applies comes from positioning and map control rather than raw speed, which is the design choice that most separates this game from other asymmetrical horror titles.
Progression, challenges and perks
Four progression tracks run at once: Profile Level from all play, Killer Level from playing Michael, Civilian Level per individual character, and Weapon Level per weapon used as Michael. Reaching max on any of them unlocks Prestige to chase further rewards.
Three challenge types feed those tracks. Passive challenges are tracked automatically across both roles, Progressive challenges are tied to specific characters, skins and weapons and complete in sequence, and Singleplayer challenges are attached to the six campaign chapters with optional objectives that reward cosmetics — including a legendary Michael look for full completion.
Perk Points earned in matches roll randomized Perk Cards of different rarities, which combine into Perk Decks equipped as loadouts. Hundreds of cosmetics are unlockable in game, which matters when weighing whether the Deluxe cosmetics are worth the upgrade.
The single-player campaign
The Night He Came Home is a six-chapter story mode played entirely as Michael, covering events from the original film with additional material set around that night.
It also functions as the tutorial layer: the mechanics introduced there are the ones you use in multiplayer, which makes it the recommended starting point for new players.
Each chapter carries optional objectives and collectibles that unlock alternate outfits and cosmetics through the Singleplayer challenge track.
Editions and what each one contains
Standard Edition costs $39.99 and contains the entire game as it shipped: the six-chapter campaign, all four multiplayer maps, ten playable civilians and every system described on this page.
Digital Deluxe costs $59.99 and adds two extra playable civilians in Richard and Alexis, the Inmate and Phantom Michael Myers skins, a Laurie Strode outfit cosmetic, a digital comic and — while it was still relevant — the four-day Advance Access window from September 4.
Physical editions arrived separately on October 6, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X, with a $39.99 disc Standard and a limited $149.99 Collector's Edition containing a Shape Jump variant action figure, lenticular art and additional Advance Access cosmetics.
Platform and technical facts
The game runs on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC through both Steam and the Epic Games Store. There is no last-generation or Nintendo version, which follows from the Unreal Engine 5 foundation.
Crossplay is supported at launch, confirmed directly in the Xbox Store capabilities list, so all platforms share one matchmaking pool of 2–5 players per lobby. Cross-progression, by contrast, has not been announced.
The Xbox listing advertises 4K Ultra HD, HDR10, 60+ fps and Dolby Atmos; the PlayStation listing instead highlights DualSense vibration and trigger effects plus PS5 and PlayStation Portal cloud streaming with PS Plus Premium.
Reception in one paragraph
Metacritic aggregates the PC version at 72/100, described as generally favorable, while OpenCritic recorded only 22% of critics recommending it. Steam settled at Mostly Positive, around 70.8% from 7,643 reviews on launch day.
The pattern behind those numbers is consistent: reviewers praise atmosphere and the killer fantasy, then criticise technical issues and systems the game fails to explain — progression, perks and post-match scoring in particular.
On population, the official site reported more than 500,000 players at launch, with Steam concurrents around 18,990 and an all-time peak of 33,639 recorded on release day.
How to use this wiki
If you have not played yet, start with the gameplay page for the match structure, then the price page to pick an edition. Those two answer most pre-purchase questions in a few minutes.
If you already own the game, the highest-value reading is the Michael Myers page for the killer kit and the community page for known bugs and their status.
Every page here lists its sources, so when a patch changes something you can go straight to the official post rather than trusting a guide that may not have been updated yet.
Not confirmed yet
- A full weapons list with per-weapon stats has not been published officially.
- PC system requirements were not retrievable from the Steam listing, which sits behind a mature-content age gate.
